re: blasting mutant space monsters

I guess blasting mutant space monsters is just one more thing I will be able to do faster and cheaper on my K6 than on a PII.

So where does Intel maintain its competitive advantage, given AMD's superior integer and gaming performance?

CAD/CAM/CAE
Enterprise applications
Servers

These are not a large portion of the x86 market. I suppose if you want to do any of these things properly, you should be using Unix and a non-x86 platform, anyway.

"In recent years, 3D has come of age in the world of personal computing. According to Jon Peddie Associates (JPA), 3D is currently the fastest growing market segment in the PC industry and is expected to double in size in the next two years." --AMD web site

I really hope, for AMD's sake, that Intel takes the PC gaming portion of the market as seriously as Elmer and Time Traveler.
