MTSB DD.....
To Gary and All..
Beliving that the MTSB issue will have significant impact on the value of MIDL, I researched the MTSB issue. Not from a technical side, but from a socio-sentiment side. Following are links to some of the information I found. There is a TON of stuff out their, most of it favoring MIDL, some not. I captured the sites that I found most interesting and attached them. I will try to keep an eye on some of the links, as they may be pre-cursors to MIDL moves.
June 30 & Nov. 30 are due dates for MTSB Studies.
I have a small interest in MIDL, and will be looking to add more, but will wait a bit. Looks like Friday was a good day to BTS, but I had a tee time to keep. Some things are more important than others. ;-)
My conclusions:
1. The fact that MTSB may or may not be a health hazard is irrelavent. Perception is reality, Califoria will ban it by 2001 either by law or by sentiment. Boxer and Feinstein squaking; So much activity around MTSB, politicians will be forced to act, especially when a viable alternative is produced.
2. Since low levels of MTSB makes the water stinky, this reinforces #1.
3. The MTSB issue has a possible side affect of making all additives go through a testing process before being implemented. Some of the MTSB legislation has considered this. Do'nt know the status of that. Could delay df-144.
4. Environmental remediation of MTSB; may be an investment there. Some interesting work going on. Need more DD to make further comment.

The most Interesting quote I found"
"Regardless of what is eventually learned from health effects research, water utilities already know that MTBE fouls the taste and odor of drinking water at relatively low levels. Initial studies by ACWA member agencies and others show that consumers can detect it in drinking water at levels as low as 2.5 ppb. Many describe it as reminiscent of turpentine. With such a low taste and odor threshold, MTBE contamination will render drinking water unacceptable at levels much lower than California's current action level and the heath advisory limit EPA is expected to propose."
This indcates to me that regardless of MTBE health affects, It will be forced out of use.

I don't care for this person, but hysteria can be used to and advantage
''We are facing an urgent situation in my state of California due to the threat of widespread contamination by MTBE,'' U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer told Environmental Protection Agency administrator Carol Browner.
