Where Credit's Due

Errant computers failed to credit about 85,000 deposits on the accounts of customers at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce earlier this month, the Financial Post newspaper of Toronto reported.

The problem occurred while a software update was being carried out on the bank's computers, according to Canada NewsWire.

The bank said no deposits were lost -- they had only failed to be recorded on specific accounts. The delays affected customers who made deposits, withdrawals or bill payments through automated teller machines or bill payments by phone or personal computer.

Employees worked to straighten out the mess and properly credit the
deposits. The bank promised to make good on any lost interest.
