The magic of 90%....

Microsoft has over 90% of the PC os market, about 90% of the PC word processor market, almost 90% of the PC spreadsheet market and large market shares in the other product areas in which they compete. Their stated goal is to achieve a 90% share in a range of related technologies. As is clear, they are more than prepared to leverage their existing monopoly to achieve their goals.

One aspect that appears to be overlooked is that their
gross profit margin is also over 90%. Does anyone reading this thread know of any other company that has a gross margin at this level? Could it be that this is a function of the fact that they have a monopoly?

It seems to me that, essentially, what is happening here is that consumers are being forced by Microsoft's monopoly to finance their expansion into other areas where they will then obtain further monopolies...forcing consumers to finance their further expansion ...

I should add that I have taken the time to read in full the DOJ and
Attorneys-General's complaints (the DOJ material was a bugger to download, but well worth it). I have just finished listening to the meeting organized by Ralph Nader last year (on RealAudio).

There is so much at stake here, and so little time to curb the appetite of this perversion of the "free market". God help us, and, more importantly, our children if Microsoft prevails. This is one battle consumers cannot afford to see lost.

P.S. Reggie (may I call you Reggie?), I logged onto your website. I couldn't help noticing that the three most prominent links are for analyses relating to Microsoft. Do you have a pecuniary or contractual interest in seeing Microsoft emerge unscathed?
