More good news for PFE...Lipitor is more efficacious than other statin drugs at lowering cholesterol:
"Treatment with atorvastatin [Lipitor] results in greater reductions in total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol when compared with other HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, researchers reported.
If confirmed by further studies, the new findings could mean that physicians might be better able to reduce cardiovascular event rates in their hypercholesterolemic patients with atorvastatin (Lipitor, Parke Davis, Pfizer) than with other statin drugs, researchers unaffiliated with the study said.
In the report, published in the American Journal of Cardiology (1998;81:582-587), researchers compared atorvastatin with simvastatin (Zocor, Merck), pravastatin (Pravachol, Bristol-Myers Squibb), lovastatin (Mevacor, Merck) and fluvastatin (Lescol, Sandoz)."
