Paul,
One of my coworkers was one of those folks that bought the latest and greatest from Dell (400 MHz with a BX motherboard). He told me that he was disappointed with its performance (e.g., not much of a perceived gain over his Intel 200 MHz). These were unsolicited comments and, granted, may be isolated. However, I am having trouble finding software that I can't run on my PR233MX system (with AGP and DVD) and my system cost less than half of what my coworker paid (for your information, I didn't share this fact with him). What really shows that there may be a "crack in the wall" at Intel (to me, at least) is when our organization's hardware expert (who, I was convinced, was a Intel die hard) acknowledged that there wasn't much difference between processors anymore!
