Party, there is no reason for the market-makers to buy up stock. In fact, most market-makers do not carry inventory over-night. The reason that they don't need to buy it up is because they can short it any time they want, without having to borrow it. Thus, they can sell when the selling is good, and they don't even have to have the stock to sell. Neat, huh? :)
