Historically this is not a software company -- they make diagnostic machines (boxes) that sit at the end of assembly lines for printed circut boards and say whether the board works or not (typically called borad testers). Now I think more and more of their earnings will come from software as they become more integrated into the manufacturing process, but don't be fooled into thinking the street views this as a software company -- I'd love it if they did -- the stock would be $50.

Their competition is large 600 pound gorrila called Hewlett Packard. To a lesser degree -- Tandam, and Schlumberger.

The jump in the stock is Fidelity and Putnam from what I hear.

We are now into the growth part of the story. Lyons may be more interested in pursuing growth (aquititions and new products) at the expense of earnings so be careful about trendlining earnings.
