PORTLAND, Ore., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESIO) today announced a $2 million order from Hyundai Electronics for ESI's Model 9275 Memory Yield Improvement Systems. This brings the total bookings from HEI to $5 million in the last three months.

The systems will be shipped, during ESI's current quarter, to Hyundai's Fab 7 in Ichon, Korea. Keith Taft, Asian Operations Director for ESI, said, "This order will facilitate Hyundai's transition from 16 to 64mb DRAM production. This increase further validates the value provided by the Model 9275."

ESI's Model 9275 specifically addresses the need to increase yields on 200mm wafers. It provides the smallest spot size and positioning accuracy available to repair increasingly smaller memory devices and a laser pulse rate up to 15% faster than previous models.

"We are focused on our program of die size reduction on 200mm wafers. This addition of ESI's equipment further enables us to meet our goals of increased throughput without sacrificing efficiency," said Mr. S.S. Kang, Hyundai's Senior Manager of Purchasing.
