London Underground Selects Geac SmartStream to Revamp Its Procurement Process
MARKHAM, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 1998--(TSE:GAC - news) Geac, in partnership with ICL, Europe's leading IT systems and services company, has won the contract to implement the full suite of Geac SmartStream products to revamp the complex Materials and Purchasing (MaP) system for the London Underground.
The London Underground is the first and still the largest urban transportation network in the world. The MaP project will, for the first time, computerize the procurement process for the entire Underground network, allowing the organization to optimize its cash and inventory management, improve its vendor relations and provide management with more detailed, meaningful and timely decision making tools. The Underground will be deploying the full suite of SmartStream applications, including financials, procurement, decision support and materials management.
''This is a great win for Geac on two counts,'' said Alan Hunt, sales and marketing director at Geac. ''Firstly, it is a testament to key benefits of SmartStream - that of quick return on investment and flexibility. Secondly, it is an endorsement of our strategic partnership with ICL, which has consistently focused on providing its clients with an effective, value for money focus to IT management.''
In choosing Geac SmartStream and ICL, the selection committee invested a significant amount of time examining the competitive enterprise resource planning market. They wanted a distributed client/server solution, that in addition to being Year 2000 enabled, would integrate well with the existing mainframe applications. They wanted a cost-effective solution that has the built in flexibility to evolve with the organization, and most importantly had the depth of functionality to meet their unique and complex procurement and financial needs.
Geac SmartStream and ICL were the perfect fit for the challenge at hand. ICL has consistently focused on providing London Underground with an effective, value for money way to manage its unique procurement and financial operations and Geac SmartStream's modular design allows for an ease of implementation that lowers the total cost of ownership to the customer. SmartStream's embedded workflow engine, its component-based architecture and the use of the PowerBuilder tool set gives it an inherent ease for making future systems modifications. What set the Geac and ICL team apart was the indepth knowledge it had of London Underground's system needs.
