Thanks for the links, Christine. I'll be sure to check them out.
Abuse in 50% of marriages--that's a staggering number.
How can it be in America? My upbringing & the example my parents set for me prepared me to accept nothing less than a partnership in marriage, a 50/50 relationship in all ways.
Have you been to Ireland? As is very obvious from my name, my husband & I are of Irish descent--Surprise:o) In 1993 we celebrated our 20th Anniversary with a trip to Ireland. Observed first hand the male/female relationships. My impression was that no more than right here in USA the celtic heritage has given the females lots of spunk. Most of them can handle any man--mentally and otherwise<ggg> The celtic women fought right along the men in battle. Now, that's 50/50.
As far as religious fervor waning there. I noticed this was so even in l993. The newspapers, same as here in U.S., have substituted scandal in place of real news. I've just about given up believing what we read & hear in the press(tv & print). The dictum of publishers to journalists to "give just the facts" has atrophied to "make the scandal as juicy as possible"--so we sell more papers, or get more viewers. Journalists have become novelists, IMHO<gg>
Observed the Promise Keepers leader being interviewed on TV a few months ago. His wife sat quietly by his side and never injected her opinion on anything. He rambled on. Kept waiting for him to ask her a question or in someway have her participate. That interview alone made me somewhat suspicious about the groups intentions. I'll hold final judgement though for now. Don't know anyone personally who belongs to the group.
Best wishes, Ann |
