Could someone explain the significance of bid/ask spread. i.e. If I was looking at a stock, and it had a bid/ask of .30/.40 It seems like most of the spreads are closer together than this. Does this mean that with a low bid and a .1 higher ask that someone is wanting to buy but not sell? or?

Thanks
