Comline Electronics Wire via NewsEdgeCorporation -- Samsung Electronics and
Toshiba Electronics announced on April 23that they will jointly develop and
manufacture next- generation VCRs. Thetwo electronics giants of Korea and Japan
will work well together in the joint initiative,
since Samsung has a competitive edge in
manufacturing and architecture and Toshibain developing core components. The two
companies produce three million units each
per year, lagging behind Mitsubishi--theworld's largest VCR manufacturer--whose
annual production level is six million units.
Under OEM contracts, the companies willmaintain their own brand names. Samsung
and Toshiba will also have regular high-leveltalks.
