my personal contingency plans

I'm skeptical by nature, so even though I believe that Y2K should cause at least a recession, the world is complicated enough that no one can say for certain what the exact fallout will be. So I say diversify your preparations.

More than anything else, I think we may expect a significant stock market correction, so buying at least some OEX LEAPS puts seems prudent. Online quotes are at cboe.pcquote.com If the market crashes before December 1999, you will have more money to cash in for other things.

If things get just economically messed up for several months to several years, picking up some gold and silver coins may project your hard earned wealth into the hopefully good times following the disruption period.

Extra basic essentials are a good thing for a possible major collapse or economic depression. We enjoy a historicly high standard of living. A prolonged economic depression where everyone is much poorer is at least as likely than a full blown Y2K doomsday. Thinking about how our great grandparents lived makes sense here. I plan to spend as more time doing this than thinking about Y2K doomsday. :-)
