The bid and ask for block trades is irrelevant, for the exact reason you quote - were the buyer or seller to come into the market, it would be moved disproportionately. These trades are arranged by a broker matching a seller with a buyer, which may take days. It is precisely because of the awesomely disruptive potential of such trades that they are done this way. As far as what can be made of such trades, they can be read either way - somebody wanted to buy a quarter million shares, and someone else was just as keen to sell a quarter million. With the trade done at the prevailing price, I don't see it having much impact either way, unless the buyer or seller is someone who would make it newsworthy. Of course, we are not likely to ascertain that.
