Some basic questions about drilling equipment (to anyone).

1. With the deeper wells, in deeper water, I have been assuming that more equipment is needed -- pipes, valves, compressors, drill bits, etc. -- than would be for shallower wells on land or in shallower water. Is this correct, at least generally? I have been going through some 10k's, and I am curious to what extent companies such as RON are benefiting from the move to deeper drilling and drilling in more difficult environments. Is much more equipment required (as well as more sophisticated equipment)? Does it wear out faster in a deeper water environment, requiring more spare parts?

2. What materials are reusable from one well to the next? When a well is no longer producing, particularly an offshore well, is everything taken apart and then moved to another site (where compatible). If not, what happens to the old pipes, pressure controls, etc.
