Former DEC Group Debuts As Intel Unit San Jose, Calif.--At the PC Developers' Expo here last week the former Digital Equipment Corp.'s PCI Bridge Products Group made its debut as part of Intel's Computer Enhancement group (CEG) following the close last Monday of Intel's $650 million buyout of Digital Semiconductor (all except for the Alpha microprocessor division, a would-be Compaq subsidiary). These first 66MHz, 64- and 32-bit PCI-to-PCI bridge chips are to be used on motherboards and add-in cards, and Mr. Theall said they "will allow a system designer to increase data throughput in a variety of data-intensive server, workstation and high-end PC applications including networking and data storage." The ICs, the 21150-BC and 21154-BC, are PCI Local Bus rev 2.1 compliant and will comply with the Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI) and PCI Bus Power Management Interface specifications. These fit into the Microsoft and Intel-driven hardware engineering specifications for remote power management. The 21150 and 21154 chips are priced at $22.70 and $38.60 in 1,000-unit quantities respectively. Samples will be available in June and October 1998 with volume shipments scheduled for August and November 1998 respectively.
