SyQuest Technology Names Ken Potashner to Board of Directors; Potashner's "History
of Profitability" Key to SyQuest Business Strategy

BusinessWire, Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at 08:25

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1998--SyQuest Technology Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:SYQT), a world leader in removable cartridge hard drive technology, today announced the appointment of
Kenneth F. Potashner to its board of directors.
Potashner, president and CEO of Maxwell Technologies, a San
Diego-based pulsed power technologies manufacturer, is described as a
"natural fit" for the SyQuest board of directors by Ed Marinaro,
SyQuest board chairman.
"Ken established a history of profitability in positions he has
held within the computer data storage industry," Marinaro said. "And
his acute business sense on how to correctly structure and streamline
enterprises fits well with our goals to carefully control expenses and
grow profits," Marinaro said.
Prior to joining Maxwell, Potashner was executive vice president
and general manager at Conner Peripherals until its acquisition by
Seagate Technology in 1996. A substantial increase in sales and
profitability at Conner is largely credited to Potashner's efforts,
and made the procurement by Seagate possible.
As vice president of worldwide product engineering at Quantum
Corp. from 1991 to 1994 Potashner streamlined production and
helped to lead the company to 50 percent annual growth and an
impressive $900,000 revenue per employee.
Potashner expressed his pleasure at being nominated to the
SyQuest board of directors. "Since 1982, SyQuest has been providing
customers with leading high-capacity storage solutions, like the
award-winning SparQ 1.0 GB drive. SyQuest is the brand to remember for
reliable, fast and cost-efficient storage products and I look forward
to being part of the team offering them direction," Potashner said.
