You might be seeing somewhat of a "flight to quality" here. Last October during the first meltdown I was shocked to see some of those same names trading up when everything else was getting slashed. They eventually got caught in the downdraft, too but it wasn't nearly as bad as the second-tier stocks. Once things settled down, people started redistributing their money back into some of the more "risky" stocks. Remember, October wasn't just October, it was October and December. I believe there will be another shock wave to follow this one before we stabilize.

Just my opinions based on mass psychology, of which I am no expert.
