Asia Pacific PC Shipment Seen Up 5 Pct In '98-IDC

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Research firm International Data Corporation said today it expected
personal computer shipments in Asia Pacific, excluding Japan, to rise five percent in 1998.

"Looking forward, IDC is forecasting five percent unit shipment growth in 1998 when compared
to the previous year," it said in a statement.

In 1997, PC shipments rose 16.5 percent in the region, IDC said.

It said concerns for the rest of the year included slowing expansion in China, economic
sanctions placed on India and lingering social unrest in Indonesia which would prolong the
turnaround in other Asian markets.

Dane Anderson, IDC's PC research manager told Reuters he expected a pickup in the region in
the second half
