Hello Mark,
Problem is, you mess around too close to those power guys and they get mean. Ray Dirks, about 20 years ago, reported a major scam to the NYSE and the SEC. They didn't believe so Ray felt at liberty, having discharged his duty to report inside information, then to tell institutional investors. Ray's info was correct, the company was a scam, his institutional clients got an advantage and the U.S. Govt. sued Ray.
Ray Dirks won, eventually, but has been hounded every since with numerous nuisance suits. Maybe it didn't help that Ray helped finance and produce, if memory serves me correctly, the movie Trading Places that dealt with insider manipulation of the OJ market with aid from a gov't employee. I suspect Trading Places hit a little too close to what was going on at the time re: manipulation of commodities to curry favor with S. American and African dictators and turn them from communism.
