Hold the phone, Paul. I never said that I expected Ascend to wither and die. I just think that they got caught flat footed in that ALL USR central site equipment is software upgradeable (most for free), while Ascend's will require hardware upgrades and/or swaps. Now they are spouting a bunch of nonsense about being first-to-market, innovators of 56k technology, etc., simply trying to save face.
Certainly the advent of 56k is going to put a damper on ISDN growth, wouldn't you agree? Nonetheless, Ascend is a significant player in an explosive market. There is plenty of pie to share, and Ascend will continue to thrive, no doubt. |
