I've tried to speak intelligently with you but it has seemed to be hopeless.

You rant and complain about the 'Democratic Machine' as if it runs the State of Hawaii like Suharto. But you fail to consider the historical reasons for the rise of the State Democratic party, and you seem to be blind to the fact that no matter how much you cry and complain about things the majority of people in Hawaii are Democrats and have chosen to elect the party to office year after year.

You seem to think because I talk sense that I must be against you. That is par for the course with the kind of inane rhetoric you seem capable of spewing. The fact is, and I have stated this in other posts, I am neither Democrat or Republican, I am interested in politics from a historical perspective and from an 'island politics' perspective.

Historically the Democrats control for a reason. That reason is basically the intrenched racism of the pre-statehood era. That's just a fact. Go read the history books. Learn what the Burns machine managed to do, and why and how they managed to do it. George Arioshi followed up on that, and now the other members of the coalition have gotten their chance.

From an island politics point of view, well a lot of what you complain about is just the island way. Not the Hawaii island way, but the way of small island nations and states. Its how politics evolves on islands. Believe me you can go to any pacific island and stay for a few weeks and start to see some of the same problems and ways of dealing with things. Ways that are unique to the islands, and the pacific. Check out the hole digging posts. That kind of thing is imbeded in the public works departments of every island nation.

I really believe that if you are to understand Hawaii, and learn to laugh at some of the things that really irritate you have to learn that these traits are a part of the land, of the people, and the weather. That may sound strange, but I have seen it in the Samoa's, in Fiji, in Tonga. I've even seen it in New Zealand, where they consider themselves a province of england.

The point is, that some of it you can never change. So there is no sense getting upset about it. One day Brian, we will see a republican $100K bus stop. I am certain.

I'll say it again. Yes there is a lot that ain't right. You point out a lot of things that are not right. But to blame it all on the Democrats is absurd. And to pour on the invective against a party that regularly polls 70 percent of the vote is just plain meaningless.

You cry and complain foul, but your neighbors go to the polls and elect Democrats every time. What does that say about you and your place in Hawaii? You seem to be the one who is way out of step.

Finally, you accused me of selling out. I believe I responded there. Secondly I will write whatever I please where I please. I don't need you to run after me telling me what is good or where it should be. There is a NEXT button. you should try use it Brian if you don't like what I got to write.

Look I got nothing against you. But your original post was just screaming. It offended me and I responded. Other people have contributed on this tread and we have written some decent posts on
political issues. So If I want to have fun with the politics of the surf at the Mak that's my business.
