Hey calm down!

OK, so I was trying to be provocative. Yes I am an academic economist (but in resource/environmental economics though heavily into econometrics) and Lucretius says he is a "venture capitalist".

I don't pretend to understand the details of the computer industry or of particular companies like DELL. I do follow developments in computing at a fairly superficial level. I just do four things:

1. Follow the overall economy globally to see where I think markets in general are heading.
2. Look at balance sheets, income statements, analysts forecasts etc. and run it through some basic valuation models.
3. Listen to what you kind of guys on SI, in the press etc. have to say about products etc.
4. Use TA to model short run movements.

Then do some kind of gut-feeling synthesis. It's not working too bad so far. My main error is to jump too soon before the rest of the market is where I think it ought to be. I am improving my timing.

As far as DELL is concerned I am a pure speculator and don't have any interest in doing the kind of calculations you are talking about.

And don't worry - tonight I will close my short position on DELL - should have done it yesterday. PPOD looks like a buy maybe for a quick runup - I'll be following it closely anyway.
