** Y2K Hype Alert **
Thanks for the heads up, Steve. We are now approaching the wind-up stage of public awareness. This 'article' is very interesting. Please notice that the tenuous thread linking the title to the writing is dispensed with straight away. Then........on to the hype.
>>The drama is not about the Y2K catastrophe itself, but centers on a harrowing personal dilemma the programmer is mired in as a result of the crisis.<< Don't you love Hollywood? Notice how this statement is completely refuted in the following paragraphs.
From the screenwriter (who got a six figure deal):
>>........I've come to believe it. And it's staggering.<< No, no, not his fee.
>> Zicherman says that corporations' rush to fix their software will cause chaos inside those companies, which, in their haste, will be forced to give access to highly privileged information to lowly software engineers.
"This creates a real opportunity for someone to do something nobody will know about," he says cryptically, refusing to discuss the plot further.(Because there isn't one. - R.B.)<< Cyberterrorism? BTW, I overheard a college student dramatically describing to some friends what the Bug would be doing to our defense system. Switching it off. Look for more of this talk round dinner tables soon.
>>....... there's a responsibility to do it right, but we also want to make it exciting.<< Ho, ho, ho, ho............
>>The danger is there'll be runs on banks. But the problem is, people don't listen unless you scare them...<< O.K.
I wonder what's going to be on the poster. Something responsible like Chris O'Donnell drenched in sweat with a frantic Sandra Bullock running just ahead of the fireball from a big explosion (probably an FAA mainframe) as missles fly through a sky of exploding satellites? Something like that.
