One of Wal-Mart's "secret weapons" is its logistics capability. They've made a science out of getting goods from manufacturer to their stores as quickly and cheaply as possible. I know this because I am familiar with their Information Technology department and how IS implemented the "back-office" to provide this amazing capability. This system will allow them eventually to provide BTO right there from any Wal-Mart store and deliver it either to the store or directly to the customer. You could walk into a Wal-Mart, walk up to a kiosk, build your PC interactively, arrange payment, AMGV would get the order, build it, ship it through Wal-Mart's distribution pipeline, you'd come back next day or the day after, and pick it up. There is a sizeable market of customers who still want to walk into a "real" store and do business, and Wal-Mart can tap that market, too, with BTO.
