Paul, Fred, John (s), Greg, all,
Been out of town for a few days, came back to see this thread invaded by AMD & CYRX zealots, nice input and amusing, a few points...
In order for Intel competitors to sell to the end user, they first have to sell to the OEM's. I've been shoping for a new computer, looking through PC Mag., and I can't seem to find any OEM's that they sell to. I think there might be a few with names I've never heard of (they don't have the Intel Inside logo's in their ads) but they don't advertise what brand of CPU they are using (smart move). Success in a product requires success in selling *through* the distribution process, which Intel competitors don't seem to be able to do.
Am I wrong, or are most of these hugh threats to Intel based on products yet to be manufacturered? Prototype and finished products are very different animals, manufacturing process limitations/comprimises can dramatically change capabilities.
Paul, thanks for your contributions to this thread. Your honest answers to those of us that are techno challenged are greatly appreciated, I wish I had time to read your notes on the CYRX thread, but the topic doesn't seem like it would be worth my effort.
