Re: CopperGold

Pat-

What sticks out like a sore thumb 1 Watt

New
The CopperGold ADSL Solution is ideal for the central office, where power and board space are at a premium, as well as at the customer premises, where affordability and quality of service are driving factors. Dissipating just 1 watt, the CopperGold Transceiver is the industry's most highly integrated solution, embodying the digital bit
pump, standard compliant data interface, and analog front-end (including A/D and D/A).

Old
Early proof of concept versions of ADSL modem chip sets required as much as 20 W average per line. These systems were implemented with off-the-shelf DSPs and discrete analog components, resulting in costly and power-hungry modems that never were intended for commercial deployment. The industry has come a long way since then, with current systems having cut the power consumption of ADSL modems in half. By the middle of 1997, with the introduction of Motorola's CopperGold ADSL solution, the power consumption will be cut in half again to less than 5 W (transceiver, line driver and communications controller).
