The play I made yesterday was to double my small position
in TDFX yesterday. This company went from $35 after great
earnings to a low of $17 5/8 yesterday. I got my first
stake at $25 and was perplexed to watch it go lower and lower
over the last week. The thing was that TDDDF, another
gaphics chip company, pre-announced bad earnings and perhaps
fear of graphics chip price wars took TDFX down as well. But
TDFX doesn't play in the same segment of the graphics market.
When TDFX hit 10x forward (12/98) earnings estimates, I had
to get more. Up a little over 2 points today. This is one
to play at least through earnings. Their VooDoo2 boards are
selling well, and this quarter's earnings should not be in
doubt. New product coming this fall that can provoke some
nervousness.
