Glitch Holding Up 292 MHZ G3 PowerBooks.

>The PowerPage has received word about a problem with
the first production run of the 292 MHz PowerBook G3
Series. According to sources close to the project an
anomaly with a resistor that controls the PowerPC 750
processor was discovered during production. We have
no confirmation of how serious the resistor issue is, but
according to our sources Apple has built over 1000 units
and they are now testing them one by one for this
defect as a precautionary measure. Apparently the 292's
are running a little too fast (if that is possible) which is
exposing a flaw in one of the resistors. Other sources
near Apple's production plant assure us that problem is
easily fixed, but Apple is taking every measure
necessary to make sure they don't let any get out with
the problem.

As someone with one of the 292 MHz configurations on
order this news is initially unsettling, but after a little
consideration Apple deserves credit for taking the extra
time (and expense) to make sure that everything is just
right with the new PowerBooks before they ship.<
