Regarding Cisco RAS killing Ascend MAX TNT that is a view point held by Cisco employees. My conversations with number of informed individuals in networking companies led to the agreement that the RA battle is over. Ascend has the most installed RA ports than anyone. If that was not the case then the 56k glitch 3 quarters ago would have caused ISPs to flock to Cisco. Didnt happen. Ascend did not lose any RA business rather they got it all back as last Quarter results in the RA equipment segment show. The ISPs waited for the software enhancements to be done, evaluated them, found them to be beyond the mark and reordered the TNT.
In the Enterprise arena one can argue that Cisco can leverage its existing position and sell RAS as a side item along with other other high end switches and router. Again you have to think logically and realistically. My IT friends at most companies are indicating that the companies would rather lease out Remote Access service to the large carriers who again have no bias towards Cisco RAS rather may go with Ascend whose equipment they already have used for a while.
Coming back to the ATM products Cisco will be introducing in the ATM Conference from what I read earlier they are just "unveiling" the products. Actual shipment is another 2-3 quarters away. Ascend products were beta-tested 7-8 months ago, were raved about and have been shipping for the last 3 months.
