Stan,

I am not sure to what sentiment you refer.

As time goes by, I would hope more and more companies put a strategy in place to solve their y2k problem. In so far as this is the case, I would suppose that more and more people would commit to a sentiment of
optimism. However, I believe that statistics generally tell the story that they are designed to tell. If a questionaire is designed to encourage company officers to cover their a----, then I suppose that is what they will do. No company CEO,CIO or MIS is going to expose any lack of company direction in this respect. There are too many legal ramifications involved and no one is going to go on record as saying they are not preparing for the y2k problem. I would hope that
most companies are further along than they were at the first of 96, but try reading some of the other literature and studies on this subject. There are plenty available, most of which indicate that a lot of people still are not taking this problem seriously. In the total context of code maintenance and new programming(reportedly $100. billion per year tab
X 3 years is $300. billion)I guess that y2k is really nothing unusual. But as an add on to this amount it would seem to be an extreme hardship on many IS budgets. I think a lot of IS managers perceive it as just another maintenance problem, but have not yet realized the scope of adjustment. IMHO

Have a great Thanksgiving,
Gerald
