Save your library time and call AT&T stockholder/investor support group - they even have an 800 number but I don't have it here in my office. If it's as old as you say and never actually got surrendered, you still could have shares in all of the Baby Bells (as I recall, you had the option to take shares in the Bells, but if you didn't specify, you stayed with "just" AT&T).
