It appears that many on this thread seem to feel that the SMSC announcement is just another piece of the puzzle. It wasn't long ago that the question was how to get the chip into the computer, The sound card, a tuner card, a modem,,or..... integrate it into the motherboard of every computer produced world wide starting in 1999. Sounds like a rather large piece of the puzzle to me. I was shocked to learn that "21st Century" had wired my neighborhood with fiber optic cable in competition with TCI. they will install a two way cable modem on my Micron in a week, 4Mbs will be a world apart from 56Kbs... and this vast increase in bandwidth will make every form of data from games to content a real time experience. Imagine a 10Mb file in seconds, or real time video...and I thought it was years away....I predict that software stores will eventually go the way of the buggy whip, everything will me metered and rapidly delivered by cable or adsl or whatever..
