Jim,

I have found most of the anti-smoking brigade here in California to be a quite militant bunch who will go out of their way and to great lengths to impose their anti-smoking propaganda rubbish on others and be exceedingly rude to smokers. Members of this anti-smoking militia whom I have run across seem to share that rather unattractive character trait of an almost pathological desire for control and dominion over others.

I'll say it again because it bears repeating: For the past several years there has been an ample selection of diverse dining and drinking establishments where smoking was not permitted. Most restaurant employees of my acquaintance smoke. The law was completely unnecessary. Many of my fellow smokers dine out less frequently now. The outdoor tables--the new and improved restaurant smoking sections--provided by many restaurants are always full.

I'm just waiting for the loons in Sacramento to rule that the private home and automobile are deemed workplaces because tradespeople sometimes are required to enter them to do work or repairs.

That said, I have always refrained from smoking in my home or automobile if someone objects to it. But I'll be darned if I'll not ever smoke in those places because someone someday might be exposed to lingering smoke.

Holly
