Asia - old or new news?

During my conversation with GSCN I got the impression that the Asia events are recent. I am sure they were aware of the potential problems but perhaps the actual specifics like capital budget freezes at customers are new news. My impression only.

But this belief was reinforced by the understanding that the analysts are off base. And even by the statement that GSCN is not providing guidelines to the analysts because they (GSCN) do not know the implications off all this yet.

I was also told that competitors have "recently" announced asia troubles. I shoulda asked "who?". And with the fresh political bruhahas -- it makes for new fundamentals and a rethinking in my book -- and evidently with "the street".

PS -
The company is perceived as pure play semiconductor capital equipment. Reality is is widdle bit different.

Sounds like 21% is the level of foreign semi equipment risk -- from my phone conversation. I just checked annual report. That 21% seeems to be the asia % sales in 1997. However, some of the north american sales are for eventual export also. Looks like 9.5% of total sales in addition to the 21%. Evidently from OEM integratosr or distributors who export GSCN product. Some of that 9.5% would be asia -- so maybe asia is more than 21%?
