I read an article in PCPhoto magazine which reviewed the available flash storage options. Sandisk was featured prominently in the article. Lexar Media and Microtech were also mentioned. At CompUSA this week I learned that Viking Components is the supplier of CompactFlash cards. As I already posted, Ritz Camera stores now offer Simple Technology brand CF cards. Thus, there are at least 5 CF card producers and curiously none of them are listed as paying licensing fees. That makes one wonder why giants like Toshiba (SmartMedia) and Intel (Miniature card) are willing to cough up dollars for intellectual properties while these other smaller "unknowns" are able to produce CompactFlash cards, sell them at competitive prices and pay no royalties. Perhaps the current stock price reflects the uncertainty of the Lexar lawsuit. For this same reason smaller companies are brazen enough to put product on the shelves as well.

Perhaps they know something we do not? It certainly would be a plausible explanation for the market's treatment of SNDK.

I started to sweat a bit when I reread the annual report's description of pending litigation. More importantly, the most recent Sandisk 10Q reiterates that competitors may be able to discover technologies which circumvent Sandisk's patent protection. In that case you can kiss the CompactFlash royalties goodbye.

Without CompactFlash royalties and revenues this stock is going to sink fast. And all of a sudden MMC seems like more of a pipe dream.

Somebody please talk me out of this argument. The company is not responsive at all to my inquiries.
