Justa,

Pick your time period and you pick your results.

Interesting. The time period I chose was from the day Brinker recommended purchase of AMAT to the date of my post (#5038). I'm interested in knowing what scientific method you chose to arrive at September 30, 1991 to the date of your post (#5042). What is so special about September 30, 1991? Did Brinker recommend AMAT on September 30, 1991? If not, then I do not see the relevance of comparing AMAT's performance to the S & P 500's since September 30, 1991.

Let's see how a long term investor (like an index buy and hold guy or gal like yourself) would have done in AMAT compared to investing in SPY.

What a long-term investor would have done in AMAT compared to investing in the S & P 500 is irrelevant to what would have happened if you followed Brinker's advice and bought AMAT on September 22, 1995, the day he recommended purchase on Nightly Business Report.

And by the way, that is what my posts are all about---Measuring Brinker's performance one stock at a time. And as soon as Skeeter Bug supplies me with the information I requested (see post #5059), I will post the ever famous MSFT and VOD recommendations. I sure hope Skeeter isn't dragging his feet on this. Feel free to send me the info if you have it, Justa.

Looks like an index beater to me.

Yes, it is Justa, but what are you proving. My contention was never that AMAT isn't an index beater, it was simply that AMAT has not outperformed the S & P 500 since Brinker first recommended it on 9/22/95 on NBR. That's it Justa. Don't read too much into it, it's not that hard to comprehend. Can't you just once swallow the truth no matter how bad you think it tastes? It is a fact, Justa. You can't dispute facts. Don't you remember that from law school? Or did you miss that day?

You just don't get it. Never have and never will. Brinker has always been about PERSONAL CHOICE. He gives you alternatives and it is up to you, the individual investor, to choose.

I'm sorry, but you must have me confused with someone else. You have completely ignored the positive comments I have made about Bob. On 3/11/98, I wrote a post about what I like about Bob Brinker:

Message 3675167

In this post, I stand behind Brinker being "one of the good guys" and his mission, which "is to inform listeners to the point where they can manage their own money". So once again, Justa, you have been uncovered for what you really are. You aren't interested in the truth coming out about ALL of Brinker's recommendations, you're just interested in smearing me, and perpetuating the belief that everything Brinker touches turns too gold like MSFT. And that leads me to what my purpose is, Justa.

I'm here to tell everyone that just because Brinker recommends a stock you shouldn't think that it's the next MSFT. You should see some of the posts people wrote after UTEK was recommended by Bob in July, '97. Here are a just a random few:

Brinker love tech stocks and he has yet to be wrong on any individual stock selection

He first mentioned it as a raging buy during an interview on Nightly Business report. He said it was a raging buy at or under $19.

Bob Brinker gave a raging buy recommendation when utek was at 14 . I have made gains with this stock and with all Brinkers ideas.

Utek was my first chance to buy an indiv. stock recommended by Bob. I bought at 24 prior to the runnup to app 34. When it fell back down I bought more in the 28 range and still more in the 26's. I now have 500 shares(most of which are financed by a home equity line;not my ususal thing but I couldn't resist the buying opp.)and am patiently waiting for a nice positive surprise as I think most of the negatives are already priced into the stock.I am a subscriber and moneytalk listener and would go with Bobs call long before anyone elses

Thats funny..... I've made money with Bob BRINKERS IDEAS. Kmag, Mnemx, ONTK, UTEK, Prasx, Unph, Microsoft, etc. I've been listening to Bob for 12 years and I recommend him to all my friends and family members. Stii is the only idea that has not developed. I give BOB BRINKER AN A PLUS.

You must not have listened to his advice because in most of these cases if you bought when he rec'd buy and sold when he recommended to sell, you would have made money.

...The misinformation that is out there is incredible. I'm just interested in giving listeners all the facts so that they can make an informed decision as to whether or not to follow Brinker's stock picks.

I believe that the reason most listeners have the belief that Bob can't miss with a stock pick is because Bob constantly beats over our head the fact that he recommended MSFT in 1990 at a split-adjusted $3 3/4 without any mention to his other recommendations. Do you think that is fair to the listeners? I think listeners should know all of the facts, so that they can "CHOOSE" whether or not to follow his stock recommendations.

Oh and by the way, how did I end up here? Well, a poster on AOL suggested it. Here's the post:

This is the UTEK message board, for all those who want to talk soley about Bob Brinker please go to Silicon Investor where they have a thread just for BB. Subject 10880 or click below:
SI: Bob Brinker: Market Savant & Radio Host

This was written by "DonSSmith" at AOL, or as he is known here on SI "donss".

In fact, recently he said he had no position in AMAT.

I'm not so sure of that, Justa. After the semi-equipment stocks got battered and finally hit their lows in the winter, Bob said they are gifts at these prices for those investors that are astute enough to buy the semi-equipment stocks at these bargain basement prices. He went on to say that he didn't think they would revisit the lows that they saw in the winter. (Uh oh, we're getting pretty close...)

Go ahead make that CHOICE to buy an index fund and forget about it. Don't forget who gave you that CHOICE. It was probably Brinker.

You are right, Justa, it was Brinker who taught me about index funds. But I don't think it's me who has forgotten. Apparently, once again, you have selective memory. I have repeatedly given Bob thanks for getting me into the Total Stock Market Index Fund.

So turn your damn radio off then...

Actually, I enjoy listening to Bob very much, thank you.

...or move on to Dr. Laura. Maybe she can help you with your other problems. We can't. We are not professional therapists.

Looks like you need radio listener comprehension therapy as well. Hope your insurance picks up for this kind of treatment. Good luck. "No soup for you! Next!!!!"

Oh, Justa. Back to your old tricks. And you were doing so well, too. Remember, I'll only respond if you are rational and logical in your arguments. And to think I was about to give you a treat, too.<g> I think it's funny how you are very rational and logical when you are discussing most everything, but me. Once you turn to me, out come the Red Herrings, Innuendo, and Hasty Conclusions. Why the change, Justa? Can't you defend Brinker using plain old logic and reasoning?

Best Regards.
