Meir - I have problems with IRIX in addition to cost. I've been a developer on all of the major non-main frame OSs including UNIX as early as 1980 and currently Solaris and IRIX, and NT for the past year. I'm also in the capacity of recommending solutions to companies.

Developers are going to support what management purchases. The thing driving managment nuts right now is the armies of sys admin people required to support UNIX. Then they get NT server up and running and they see how few people are required to manage it. Right now NT can't support big networks but MS is on the right track for sys admin - namely "make the system smart enought to configure and maintain itself."

I have to be very objective in my business to survive and this is a big cost issue that people are grappling with right now.

As I said in my recent post, for real-time sim I prefer NT over the UNIX variants.
