Demand for wireless will grow in 2 ways - new users (which is really the only metric analysts have been using) - but more importantly in Minutes of Use (MOU). MOU is very significant because as costs are driven down by competition (which we are seeing now - ask Jim in Chicago) it will become more and more economical to use wireless technology. Also, as data, video and WLL applications hit the streets, demand (MOU's) will grow. Maximizing Spectrum Capacity WILL BE a cometitive advantage to carriers. CDMA in Hong Kong, Korea and tested under full load in US PCS markets by Primeco has proven 10 times capacity over anaolog at 13 KB vocoders. This has been proven. I have been informed that no GSM or TDMA system has achieved greater than 2-3X. In Europe where the oldest and most widely used GSM system is deployed, they are getting 1 -1 against anlolog. (In terms of spectrum and base stations). This capacity gain will eventuall br required in most heavily conjested areas when new users plus the increase in MOU's effect demand.
