I think the time lag between glucose levels in ISF and blood is irrelevant as long as the ISF reading is available real-time.

A real benefit from a real-time non- or minimally-invasive monitor is to spot the downward trend in glucose levels in advance of a hypoglycemic excursion. If the monitor shows onset of the excursion twenty minutes after it has started, well, that's still plenty of time to avoid it. But if the diabetic is sticking him/herself seven times a day, the hours between tests could be dangerous indeed.
