They now need to extend this to the applications business. NCA is how they do that. The new NCA applications release is the first step in that direction.

I agree. I also feel the direction of ERP software (Oracle Financials, PeopleSoft, SAP R/3, etc.) is to be "open components" (which is what NCA is about). That is, the software becomes simply a set of parts that can be plugged in with other types of software to do what you need to get done. For example, Oracle Purchasing components would work with SAP's General Ledger, etc.

We're not going to see this soon, but this is what businesses are looking for. It may not be Oracle or SAP who provides it, but it will be addressed by some company. This is one of the the concepts behind IBM's San Francisco project (check out dhagroup.com and ibm.com.
