"I have shorted odd lots through Datek and have never had a problem - it may vary from stock to stock. I would assume that the more shares the broker holds in street name the easier it is."

This morning I tried to short an odd lot of LOW @ 79 3/4 when the bid/ask was 79-5/8 / 79-3/4. It proceeded to uptick to 79-7/8 / 80 after which it sat for a few minutes and my order never went thru. I cancelled the order and placed a market order which sat there for 8 minutes. My order never got filled. The bid/ask went to 80 / 80-1/4. No fill. The price started to go down, I pulled the order and called Datek. The gentleman which I talked to was very nice, no problem there. But in the end, it was pretty much "a missed opportunity" (his words). Bottom line excuse - odd lot. This is a stock that averages 800K+ shares/day, I would have thought it should have gotten filled no problem.

The price proceeded to drop to 78-1/16 (as of this writing). Oh well another "missed opportunity".

Any thoughts? Anyone?
