ICC '98 Presents The SuperNeighborhood at SUPERCOMM '98

Take a stroll through the neighborhood of the future

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 1998-- A Nobel prize winner will be hanging around an Atlanta neighborhood,
greeting visitors and chatting with everyone.

Not just any neighborhood and not just any Nobel prize winner.

Arno Penzias, 1978 Nobel prize winner and noted futurist, will be in the SuperNeighborhood(sm) on Tuesday and
Wednesday, June 9 and 10 at SUPERCOMM in Atlanta. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' 1998
International Conference on Communications (ICC '98) will host the SuperNeighborhood, a high-tech neighborhood of the
future, SUPERCOMM show organizers announced Wednesday.

''The SuperNeighborhood is a collection of super-high tech, high touch exhibits depicting new technologies for residential,
small business and complex business communications,'' according to Bill Smith, ICC '98 general chair and BellSouth vice
president -- Network Strategic Planning. ICC '98 is affiliated with and held in conjunction with the SUPERCOMM '98 trade
show and conference.

Visitors will stroll through the neighborhood of the future, populated by many of the world's leading names in the computer and
communications fields -- Alcatel, Ascend, BellSouth, Cisco Systems,
Comverse Network Systems, <=============
Digital Equipment Corporation [NYSE:DEC - news], Fujitsu, Home Wireless Networks, Intel, Lucent Technologies, Newbridge Networks and Nortel.

''Exhibits will depict today's and tomorrow's newest technologies, including telemedicine, wireless LANs (local area
networks), high speed Internet access services and much more. Many of the exhibits will feature displays interacting with
booths on the SUPERCOMM '98 show-floor,'' Smith said.

''We're excited to have Arno with us at ICC '98, just as we're excited by the outstanding group of papers and presentations
being offered during our technical program,'' Smith said.

In the middle of the SuperNeighborhood, a specially designed lounge area modeled after a town square, will offer visitors a
place to meet and exchange ideas.

ICC '98 will present a technical program including 47 full- and six half-sessions featuring 346 technical papers and
presentations, 29 services, applications and systems (SAS) sessions, 20 tutorials and five workshops.

On Wednesday afternoon June 10, senior management from the SuperNeighborhood participants will present their
SuperNeighborhood concepts in a three hour application session. Detailed information is available on the ICC '98 Web site,
icc98.bellsouth-hosting.net.

The SuperNeighborhood occupies an 18,000 square foot area in Hall A at Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center, where
SUPERCOMM '98 is being held. The SuperNeighborhood is open from 9-6 on Tuesday, June 9, from 9-5 on Wednesday,
June 10 and from 9-2 on Thursday, June 11.
