A dissenting view: Here is an email I received from a respected friend after reading yesterday's release. He works as a petroleum engineer in Houston: Independent oilmen are a dime a dozen. I don't see anything unusual or unique that these guys are doing compared to others in the industry. It is a very common practice for retired oilmen to ban together to go out a scavange old leases to try and revitalize and capture "behind pipe" reserves. It makes for a reasonable living, but nothing to "get rich quick" over. If on the other hand, you get a group of investors coming in and buying up all the stock, you could have a nice run -- but fundamentals tell you that it might be just a quick run. Ride the tide if you think it has potential, but get out quick once you have a respectible profit or if it starts to turn south. I am not familiar with coal operations. West Virginia was a hot play about 10 years ago, with many oil companies setting up shop there. What they came to realize real quickly is that the reserves are very short lived and not too economical to produce. There is still activity there, but most of the Major Oil companies have pulled out due to the economics. What also troubles me about this news release is how "generic" it is. There is really no factual or substantive information to base a reasonable judgment on how well the company might do and what their specific prospects are. ________________________________________________ Just curious what the thoughts of others on the thread are about this.
