Rational,

The western public interest is obviously increased because of their history with nuclear weapons in general as well as the two world wars. They are wondering now why India? What for the blasts? From that point of view the blasts by India have triggered interest and accompanied skepticism. However, many of them read/watch TV/paper headlines only. Very few, take interest beyond that to find out the reasons and repercussions for the blasts. Its hard to fathom the history of SEAsian countries by reading few articles here and there and its hard to say how much of the clandestine Chinese operations have become clearer to the Western Public. The blasts have certainly caught the attention of the western public (or anyone for that matter!).

Although, I agree that India's primary focus should be to develop their own economy and defense capabilities, at some point they have to change their foreign policy. The sooner they are in the allied circle of US the better they would fare.

Gunther.
