AirTouch Paging Says Satellite Woes Costly

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - AirTouch Communications said that last week's satellite failure, which disrupted paging
service nationally, will cost the company about $2 million in customer credits and labor overtime costs.

AirTouch Paging said it will give its customers a credit on service fees for the two-day period it was unable to provide
service due to a satellite problems.

PanAmSat's Galaxy IV satellite failure last week occurred when a computer onboard the satellite crashed and a backup
system failed to kick in, leaving the satellite spinning slightly off kilter.

Paging companies, television networks, radio and news picture outlets then scrambled to reroute traffic and restore service.

AirTouch said its paging service was disrupted for the majority of its 3.1 million customers on May 19. By May 21 virtually
all of its customers were able to receive pages in their home markets.

Earlier this week, magazine publisher and broadcaster Primedia Inc. said the satellite failure would reduce profits by about
$5 million.
