Jack, All,

It would behoove people who would embrace former California Governor Jerry Brown and his fresh and honest approach politics to do a little delving into his record during his years in office in California.

Jerry fought long and hard against Proposition 13 (the property tax initiative). By the time the next election rolled around, he had half the people in California believing he had all but written Prop 13. So much for honesty and ethics.

He brought us Chief Justice Rose Elizabeth Bird and her merry court of jesters. He was soft on crime to the point of being downright soft in the head. He gussied up the prisons with amenities. His Administration did away with the long-standing, tried and true indeterminate sentencing laws and restored the civil rights to convicted felons--in and out of prison. Countless dangerous but fully reinfranchised criminals were released into the streets of our communities during his reign, and they were no longer required to register with the police departments in their chosen towns of residence.

President Reagan left the State of California with surplus funds in the State Treasury. Jerry (tax and spend) Brown squandered much of the these funds on programs which justly earned him the Governor Moonbeam moniker. His good works included myriads of bicycle lanes and paths and banks of freeway daisies, while our infrastructure (read roads, bridges, underpasses, overpasses, etc.) were allowed to fall into disrepair, just waiting for the next big earthquake or flood to take them out.

I could go on, but I think you can grasp the picture. If you liked FDR, LBJ, and Jimmy Carter, you will absolutely LOVE Jerry Brown.

Holly
