I agree, I remember a while back, I filled out a "flat tax" form on a card (Heritage Foundation promotion, I think), and thought, this is so simple, why don't people get this??? My tax bill is somewhat lower (and believe me, I have plenty of deductions, my tax return is always over 20 pages) and it took me less than 5 minutes, and I didn't have to pay somebody $450!!!! Not to mention nearly going into a state of nirvana imagining how life would be without all the mammoth record keeping, which of course, stems from the federal government telling us which expenses it sanctions ....
I'm convinced the average person needs a picture drawn for them before they are prodded out of their lethargy....On the positive side though, the GenX'ers are beginning to look at how much they are giving away each and every week, seeing their pay checks cut usually by at least a third, and for what? I'm so sick of the government taking money out of one guy's pocket and putting it into another's, and I guess I feel that's why it will take a financial cataclysm to be the impetus for real change. People are so used to being "nickled and dimed" to death, that,without it being graphically demonstrated how much better off they would be with real change, folks will be content to live "hand to mouth". Not me. |
