The technical details are far beyond my level of knowledge or expertise. I have formed opinions based upon publicly available information including that which I've requested from the IR groups.

It took PLAB more than 4 months to install the Alta 3500 after delivery from ETEC. They're now approaching the 4 month bogey with the Ultrabeam V2000 tool. That leads me to believe that it's a little more tricky than installing a new cartridge in your camera or razor. ;-)

We're talking about tolerances less than 100 atoms wide (I think). It's conceivable that an inconsistent airflow, or an inexact control of temperature could cause failures with this type of equipment.

Regardless of the difficulty, when man (no offense meant, Katherine) is faced with a challenge, it's usually overcome if there's a sufficient payoff at the end.
